26.05 \u2013 17.06.2023<\/span><\/p> CHORUS 1.8 is a sound and visual installation by Neusa Trovoada that is based around the speculum oris<\/em>, an object used during the Atlantic crossing to force abducted Africans to eat when suicide represented the most radical \u2013 and indeed only \u2013 form of resistance available to them. It moves from mouth to mouth, before entering my own. I swallow shredded skin and bones of bodies that come from over there, from the other side, jumbled up with shoes and laments, to find me. The ravenous mouth must eject these brackish choirs. And after bleeding the salt from the wounds, the mouth, hardened, sleeps amid the twinkling silence of the night.
