Jardim Crioulo - Process

The exhibition \u201cJardim Crioulo - Process\u201d offers a unique insight into the conception and development of the exhibition project \u201cGreenhouse,\u201d Portugal\u2019s representation at the 60th International Art Exhibition \u2013 La Biennale di Venezia 2024, curated by M\u00f3nica de Miranda, V\u00e2nia Gala, and S\u00f3nia Vaz Borges. The \u201cGreenhouse\u201d project is defined by four actions: Garden (Installation, Space, Time); Living Archive (Sound, Movement, Performance); School (Education, History, Revolution); Assemblies (Public, Communities, and Publication).<\/p>

This exhibition focuses on one aspect of the project: the process of creating a Creole garden, a reference to the gardens created by enslaved people as acts of resistance and survival \u2013 an antithesis to monocultural plantations. In Venice, the garden will feature a sound installation, sculptures, dance\/performance, workshops, readings, and participatory events. An interdisciplinary team collaborated with the artists and paulo moreira architectures in designing and implementing sculptural objects and living gardens inside the Palazzo Franchetti, from April 20 to November 24, 2024. The structures of the Creole garden are formed by modules that allow the insertion of natural vegetation. A family of sculptural objects with various configurations, scales, and shapes is created, serving as a stage for the activations of the \u201cGreenhouse\u201d program.<\/p>

This exhibition presents previously unseen materials related to the creation and execution process of the exhibition project, including study models, sketches, technical drawings, photographs, and videos, provided by various project contributors. These elements serve as a starting point for reflecting on the collaborative work between curation, artistic creation, exhibition design, landscaping, and production methods, inviting reflection on the importance of interdisciplinarity in the fields of art and architecture.<\/p>
