Dancing Architects - Summer Lab 2024
02-09.09.2024
Dancing Architects Summer Lab 2024 ‘Constant Becoming’ took place from September 2–9, offering participants a unique journey of architectural choreography. The lab invited participants to explore with movement as an agency and medium to perceive and respond to the embodied choreography of the culture and texture, as well as the qualities and the stories of the city of Porto. Led by Takako Hasegawa, with the collaboration of dancer Sophie Arstall and movement practitioner Jonathan Ben-Shawl, participants engaged in a variety of activities at INSTITUTO, Balleteatro, Leal neighbourhood, and iconic urban locations throughout Porto. The sessions centred on physicality of the body, the choreography of architecture, and urban movement, with site-specific explorations and the creation of choreographic objects. Through a series of rehearsals, talks, lectures, urban explorations, and site-specific choreography, participants translated spatial experiences into movement, culminating in a collective performance as an architectural dialogue in Leal neighbourhood with the participation of guest critics Gabriela Vaz Pinheiro, Matilde Seabra, Patrick Hubmann, and Tiago Antero. It was an inspiring week filled with shared energy and the joy of moving together.
