Peças desgarradas
22.03.2024
“Peças desgarradas: a origem dos materiais” [Stray pieces: the origin of materials] brings together the results of the first public activity of the NADA NOVO FORUM project, a workshop held in January 2024 between the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP) and the School of Architecture, Art and Design of the University of Minho (EAAD). The workshop set out to explore the routes of the debris of the buildings we demolish to renovate the city and their potential for reuse, and to contaminate the participants' views with the perspectives of the social values of material heritage, environmental sustainability and gender inequalities in the construction professions.
The participants visited four different types of 'mines', each corresponding to a theme ('origin', 'safeguarding', ' use', and 'waste'). They were challenged to create, in an exploratory and speculative process, symbolic objects that point to re-readings and aesthetic meanings that go beyond the reductive notion of cartography as a utilitarian tool for geographical orientation or the physical representation of a territory.
The opening was accompanied by a conversation with Jérémy Pernet (architect and photographer), Cidália Silva (EAAD-UM), Mulheres na Arquitectura, Cláudia Escaleira (NADA NOVO), Jonny Pugh (NADA NOVO), Paula Lage and Paulo Sousa (Materials Bank, Porto City Council), among other project members and workshop participants.
NADA NOVO FORUM is a project by NADA NOVO - Associação, taking place between January and July 2024.
